About the Newsworthy Project

Check out the first post of May for a complete introduction to this project. "Take your Bible and take your newspaper, and read both. Newspapers are so important that I always pray for the sick, the poor, the journalists." — Karl Barth.

Over the course of the next year, I plan to commit myself to do what Barth suggests. I intend to read the newspaper and the Bible everyday and interpret what I read into a collection of sketches which I will share here.

My daily readings are from the New International One Year Bible, which includes passages from both the old and new testaments, Psalms and Proverbs, and primarily, but not exclusively, the National Post, a Canadian newspaper. Using pencil and watercolour pencils, my sketches are done on the right side of a 7.75 X 7.75 " sketchbook, along with some notations. On the left side, I tape the cut out section of the newspaper article that inspired me.
